Introducing the Modules
This page contains a brief description of the modules as well as links to the module directory. Each module is offered in each semester unless specified differently. The practical parts can be completed in a different semester from the course or self-study unit, but some modules expect students to have completed the theory part first, and to have produced an observation project sketch, before they can register for the practical parts. Click on the heading to open a box with more information, information sheets and the module descriptions.

B.Eng.817 Introduction to Book Studies M.EP.12f Introduction to Book Studies The module focuses on Book Studies and thus forms a background to the other management on aspects of literary and cultural management. Core areas, concepts and approaches are introduced; students can try their hands at them before conducting one to two Book Studies mini projects and present their findings in writing or in form of a poster presentation.

B.Eng.811 Foundations: The Publishing Industry M.EP.12 Foundations: The Publishing Industry The module introduces students to basic processes in publishing. Students learn about the roles of authors, readers and publishing companies, understand the importance of agents, get an insight into self-publishing and into marketing strategies and options. The hands-on practical part of the module expects students to follow two publishers and study their marketing strategies and ways of reaching out to their respective readerships.

B.Eng.812 Literaturrezeption und Literaturmediation M.EP.12a Forms of Literary Reception: Outside View The module requires students to participate in the block seminar or do a self-study unit to learn about various means of engaging audiences and creating a literary field. For the practical part they then attend various events at a literary festival and engage with information materials. The module expects students to study and reflect on how literature is mediated to and received by different audiences.

B.Eng.813 Perspektiven der Literatur- und Kulturindustrie M.EP.12b Perspectives on the Literature and Culture Industries The module gives students the opportunity to do an internship in a literary business (domestic or abroad) and to broaden their knowledge of the literature industry. A course or self-study unit that introduces basic concepts and principles of participant observation is an integrated part of the module.

B.Eng.816 Literary Heritage, Literary Museums, Literary Tourism M.EP.12e Literary Heritage, Literary Museums, Literary Tourism The module allows students to get an deeper insight into cultural and literary heritage: how museums work, how to explain "heritage" and how to exhibit literature (or authors). For the practical part, students analyse exhibitions or guided tours.
