The Scope of Authority for Emergency Medical Personnel in Pre-Hospital Care
On July 16, 2025, at 7:00 PM sharp, the Center for Medical Law cordially invites you to the next edition of the “Medical Law Today” discussion series. The event will take place online via Zoom and is scheduled to end at 9:00 PM.
The evening will focus on a topic of central importance to emergency care: the scope of authority granted to emergency medical personnel in pre-hospital settings. Increasingly, paramedics and emergency medical technicians are required to act swiftly in critical situations—often before a physician arrives on scene. But how far does their legal authority actually extend? What medical procedures are they permitted to carry out independently, and what legal risks are involved?
These questions are not only of practical relevance for emergency personnel, but also raise broader legal, ethical, and health policy considerations. The discussion explores the complex tension between legal responsibility, medical necessity, and the structural realities of emergency medical services.
To explore these multifaceted issues from various perspectives, our panel will feature:
Dr. Malysch, representing the German Society for Interdisciplinary Emergency and Acute Medicine (DGINA)
Dr. Grautoff
Dr. Rave
Together, they will examine the current legal framework, potential reform initiatives, and the practical implications for emergency care in Germany.
The event is aimed at professionals from the fields of law, medicine, and emergency services, as well as anyone interested in current developments at the intersection of healthcare and legal regulation. Participation is free of charge, and the Zoom link will be sent via email upon registration.
We look forward to an engaging evening and a stimulating discussion—and warmly invite you to join us.
