Programme description
The M.A. programme in Intercultural Theology aims at equipping graduates to foster intercultural, interreligious and interdenominational communication and cooperation. The programme enables students to conduct in-depth scientific work focusing on theologically responsible practices within intercultural and interreligious communication and education processes. The programme therefore conveys knowledge of structural elements, forms and transformation processes of Christian Theology in different cultural contexts. It enables students to anaylse and understand the trans- and intercultural characters and diversity of the cultural form of Christianity. Students will learn to responsibly and contextually work with the religious texts and practices and to reflect on the interaction between people of different religions, as well as analyse the theological, social, political and economic conditions of (inter)cultural transformation processes.

The international mixture of students as well as an encouraged stay abroad emphasizes the intercultural educational process, promoting intercultural exchange. Students will undertake a specific project during their studies, with a strong focus on the practical application of academic theories.

In addition to intercultural and contextual theology and project work, students obtain fundamental skills in intercultural communication and are given an opportunity to learn basic German, and ancient languages relevant to theological studies (e.g. Hebrew, Greek).
