The section for teaching and learning in higher education program in cooperation with the Centre for Modern Indian Studies

From August to December 2020, University Didactics cooperated with the Centre for Modern Indian Studies (CeMIS) in the “DE/ IN CeMIS” project, which is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and takes place via the “A New Passage To India” funding program. Within this framework, we developed and implemented an English-language online workshop program entitled “Teaching and Learning in Intercultural and Digital Settings”, which was aimed at teachers from the 14 Indian partner universities and institutions of CeMIS as well as CeMIS teachers. A total of 23 teachers took part in the program, which consisted of five thematic workshop blocks.

In addition to didactic principles of teaching and learning, topics such as “Diversity and Intercultural Settings” and “Teaching and Learning in Digital Settings” were dealt with in more detail in order to meet the specific interests of the lecturers. The program benefited greatly from the subject-specific, location-specific and cultural characteristics and experiences of all participants. This was evident not only in language differences (also due to different mother tongues among Indian students), but also in different teaching and learning approaches. However, there was also a great deal of overlap in the challenges faced by the participants in the teaching context, which they were able to discuss in numerous discussion and group phases and develop possible solutions.
